Ocutrx’s HemoLucence Allows Surgeons to See Through Blood

Ocutrx Technologies has unveiled HemoLucence™, a groundbreaking feature of its OR-Bot™ 3D Surgical Microscope System that renders blood translucent during surgery. This real-time visualization breakthrough allows surgeons to see through pooled blood without suction or irrigation, offering unprecedented clarity of underlying tissues, vessels, and nerves. The technology is powered by proprietary AI algorithms and advanced de-scattering physics that reconstruct a clear 3D view from multiple angles.

In early tests, HemoLucence successfully visualized through up to 3 millimeters of whole human blood, with expectations to double that depth. The system distinguishes between light absorbed by blood and light scattered by red blood cells, enabling detailed imaging even in the midst of active bleeding. Surgeons and advisors from Cedars-Sinai and Hoag Memorial Hospital have praised the tool for enhancing safety and precision across surgical disciplines.

Set to enter clinical trials in 2025 or 2026, HemoLucence could become a new standard in surgical imaging. By transforming a long-standing limitation into a visual advantage, Ocutrx is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in real-time intraoperative guidance.
